DETERMINING THE OPENING SIDE OF SECURITY DOORS

The opening side of the security and fire resistant entrance door is determined as follows:
When looking at the door from the space in which it opens, the hinges determine the side of the opening. If we look at the door and the hinges are on the left, then it is the left door. If the hinges are on the right side, it is the right door. The direction of opening the front door can be outwards or inwards.

STONE DOORSTEPS – TECHNICAL EXECUTIONS

STONE DOORSTEP FOR SECURITY DOORS
A stone doorstep with a seal on the contact side with the door leaf is a desirable addition to any security and fire resistant door.
It also significantly affects sound and thermal insulation and further emphasizes your doors giving them an even stronger look.
If you change your old front door of the apartment, the stone doorstep will also serve to cover the traces of the old door frame on the outside.
The pictures show the technical performances of the stone doorstep installations and our standard palette of decors. When installing a stone doorstep with double-sided MDF frame covers, a stone doorstep 10 cm deep and 2 cm thick is installed as standard, with the possibility of installing a custom made stone doorstep. In case of a door jamb trim installation, the stone doorstep is made in the depth of the jamb trim itself -1 cm. For external, façade installations, it is recommended to install a stone doorstep in the depth of the external frame cover. Below you can see a more detailed overview of each technical design of the stone doorstep installation.

INSTALLATION POSITION OF SECURITY DOORS 1.
Installation position 1 in 3D view
Installation position with available construction tooth

Installation of entrance security and fire resistant doors when there is space inside (construction tooth)
At this position you can easily determine which dimension of the security door is suitable for this type of construction opening. The installation width of the door should be at least 2 cm smaller than the construction opening, while the installation height should be smaller by 1 cm; so that the door can enter the construction opening without jamming. Maximum allowed deviation of the construction opening +4 cm from the installation width of the door and +3.5 cm from the installation height of the door so that the metal feathers of the frame rest on the wall from the inside. The gap is filled with polyurethane foam and processed and covered with decorative MDF frame covers or door jamb trim.

INSTALLATION POSITION OF SECURITY DOORS 2.
L installation position
L position of installation sketch

Installation of entrance security and fire resistant doors when there is no space from the inside on the left (no construction tooth)
At this position, the left feather (seen from the inside) pushes us 3 cm away from the wall. One size smaller door than the dimension we would install if we had space on the left (construction tooth) is installed. The installation width of the door +3 cm should be at least 1 cm smaller than the construction opening, while the installation height should be 1 cm smaller, so that the door can enter the construction opening without jamming. The maximum allowed deviation of the construction opening +3 cm is +2 cm, so that the metal feathers of the frame rest on the wall from the inside. The gap is filled with polyurethane foam and is processed and covered with decorative MDF frame covers or door jamb trim.

INSTALLATION POSITION OF SECURITY DOORS 3.
Installation in tunnel in 3D view

Installation of entrance security and fire resistance doors when there is no space inside on the left and on the right (no construction tooth)
With this mounting position, there is no space for metal construction feathers neither on the left nor on the right, so the installation dimension of the door is +6 cm. The installation width of the door + feathers should be reduced at least 1 cm so that the door fits into the construction opening and can be mounted. The maximum allowed deviation of the construction opening from the installation width of the door +6 cm is +5 cm. If the deviation is greater, one size wider door is installed. The gap is filled with polyurethane foam and is processed and covered with decorative MDF frame covers or door jamb trim.

INSTALLATION OF SECURITY DOORS ON THE INNER PART OF THE DOOR FRAME JOINT
Installation on the inner part of the door frame joist

Installation of entrance security and fire resistant doors on the inner part of the door frame joist
When determining the dimensions of the door, it is first necessary to determine in which position in the door frame joist the door is mounted. In this situation (installation on the inner part of the joist, flush with the inner wall) left, right and above we have enough space for metal feathers and we look at the built-in dimension of the door that can fit into the construction opening. In this construction situation, we need a construction opening with a minimum width of +2 cm from the installation width of the door and +1 cm from the installation height of the door. This is the opening size we need to be able to install a levelled door and insert polyurethane foam.

INSTALLATION OF SECURITY DOORS ON THE CENTRAL PART OF THE DOOR FRAME JOINT
Installation on the central part of the door frame joist

Installation of entrance security and fire resistant doors on the central part of the door frame joist
When determining the dimensions of the door, it is first necessary to determine in which position in the door frame joist the door is mounted. In this situation – installation on the central part of the joist – left, right and above we have no space for metal feathers and we look at the installation dimension of the door +metal feathers so that the door can fit into the construction opening. In this construction situation, we need a construction opening with a minimum width of +1 cm from the installation width of the door + feathers (a total of 6 cm) and +1 cm from the installation height of the door + feather of 4.5 cm. This is the opening size we need to be able to install a levelled door. The gap on the outside is filled with polyurethane foam and is processed and covered with decorative MDF frame covers or door jamb trim.

INSTALLATION OF SECURITY DOORS ON THE OUTER PART OF THE DOOR FRAME JOINT

The gap on the outside is filled with polyurethane foam and is processed and covered with decorative MDF frame covers or door jamb trim.

INSTALLATION OF SECURITY DOORS – LINTEL
Installation position in lintel - 3D view

Installation positions of entrance security and fire resistant doors – lintel
When determining the dimensions of the door, it is first necessary to determine in which position in the door frame joist (lintel) the door is mounted. The door can be mounted in relation to the lintel on three positions: on the outer position (flush with the outer wall), on the central position of the batten (lintel) and on the inner position (flush with the inner wall). For installation on the outer and central position, the total height of the door with the upper feather of 45 mm + 1 cm is looked at so that the door fits into the construction opening and so that there is 1 cm of gap to level the door. On the inner position, the built-in dimension of the door + 1 cm for leveling is needed (we have space above for the metal feathers). The gap on the outside is filled with polyurethane foam and is processed and covered with decorative MDF frame covers or door jamb trim.

INSTALLATION WITH DOUBLE-SIDED MDF FRAME COVERS
Door frame jamb and MDF frame covers

Example of installation with double-sided wooden MDF frame covers
Installation of security and fire resistant doors with double-sided 60 mm MDF frame covers that decoratively cover the metal frame is the most common type of installation. MDF frame covers, colour matched with the built-in panels are placed over the metal frame, which additionally affects the aesthetics and sound and thermal insulation. A stone doorstep on the outside additionally strengthens the door and gives a complete appearance. There are cases when the stone doorstep is not mounted, mostly when the outer floor is 2 cm higher than the inner one. In these cases, the tooth of the outer floor is used to install the sealant to seal the door. When replacing old doors with security ones, after installation, masonry finish is required around the newly installed doors. With a minimalist approach, the masonry is executed with a “hidden frame” and the inside is not covered by MDF frame covers.

INSTALLATION OF DOOR FRAME JAMB AND INTERNAL MDF FRAME COVERS

Example of installation of door frame jamb and internal MDF frame covers
A door frame jamb is an exterior decor in the colour of the exterior panel that covers the exterior of the batten (wall). With the jamb, better sound and thermal insulation is achieved on security and fire resistant doors, and the door is additionally emphasized and given a richer look. When installing the door frame jamb, in most cases a stone doorstep with a seal in the depth of the outer batten is also installed. The stone doorstep additionally strengthens the door and increases sound and thermal insulation. In cases when the stone doorstep is not mounted, the outer floor is mostly 2 cm higher than the inner floor and then the tooth of the outer floor is used to install the sealant to seal the door. When installing a door frame jamb, there is no need for masonry treatment of the outer part of the batten. 60mm MDF frame covers are used to cover the metal frame on the inside, as a decorative accessory to the door frame. With a minimalist approach, the masonry is executed with a “hidden frame” and the inside is not covered by MDF frame covers.

“HIDDEN FRAME” MASONRY FINISH – INNER PART OF THE DOOR FRAME JOINT

Example of “hidden frame” masonry finish, with or without MDF frame covers on the inside
With a minimalist approach, the masonry is executed with a “hidden frame” with or without MDF frame covers on the inside. Hidden frame is popular with interiors and exteriors. In the case of external security doors for the house, it is also the proper thermal insulation of the frame, which is performed with a facade styrofoam and finished with a granular facade. The prescribed visibility of the frame after applying the facade is 8-10 mm. In the case of improper masonry, with visible frame on the outside, condensation may occur. With entrance doors to apartments that are not exposed to external influences, the “hidden frame” is made with gypsum boards, siporex or styrofoam. Like the door frame jamb, the masonry treatment of the hidden frame significantly affects the sound and thermal insulation.

STONE DOORSTEP AND ALU DRIP SHEET – HOUSE ENTRANCE SECURITY DOORS

Example of the installation of a stone doorstep and ALU drip flashing
The picture and sketch show the layout of the stone doorstep and ALU drip flashing mounted on the ALU security door for the house. A stone doorstep with a seal is standard on all security doors exposed to external influences in order to achieve adequate thermal and sound insulation. A seal can also be directly mounted on the outer finished floor, which in this case should be older (higher than the inner floor), at least 2cm. Failure to install a stone doorstep or proper sealing on the outer upper floor may result in hypothermia and condensation on the door. When the door is not protected from rain by a canopy, it is mandatory to install an ALU drip flashing to transmit water flowing down the outer front of the door leaf over the joint of the door leaf and the stone doorstep. The picture and sketch also show the proper thermal insulation of the metal frame with facade styrofoam.

STONE DOORSTEP – SECURITY DOORS FOR APARTMENTS – WITHOUT DOOR FRAME JAMB

Example of the installation of a stone doorstep – security doors for an apartment without a door frame jamb
The picture and sketch show the layout of the stone doorstep at the front door of the apartment. The security door is mounted with double-sided 60 mm MDF frame covers (without door frame jamb) and a stone doorstep on the outside of 10 cm depth, which does not cover the entire depth of the batten (space from the door to the end of the wall). If desired, it can be made to measure in the entire depth of the opening. A stone doorstep with a seal is standard on all security doors to achieve adequate thermal and sound insulation. A seal can also be directly mounted on the outer finished floor, which in this case should be older (higher than the inner floor), at least 2cm.

ALU THERMO PROFILES – FOR SECURITY DOORS EXPOSED TO EXTERNAL INFLUENCES
ALU THERMO PROFILES

Additional thermal protection of steel frame – security doors for houses
Houses without thermal and microclimatic anteroom require additional thermal insulation of steel frame of the entrance security doors. For such spaces, we have produced additional thermal protection in the form of ALU Thermo profiles that cover the externally exposed parts of the steel frame. Also available is an internal set of ALU thermal profiles for the most demanding situations. With project entrance doors, depending on the interior configuration and space heating, ALU cold shells can be accessed for a more flat design or ALU Thermo profiles for maximum thermal insulation. Standard thermal insulation of steel frames in treatment with facade styrofoam, in combination with ALU Thermo profiles, provides maximum thermal insulation.
